Believe me when I say Les Deux Alpes is a one-stop shop for outdoor experiences in France. Named Two Alps because of two towns located on the North and south ends of the mountains, they have everything from skiing, mountain biking, and white water rafting, to activities I’ve never heard of – like glacier walking and canyoning! And when in France, you have to experience the cuisine. You don’t have to be a skiing enthusiast to have a good time here; come any season and enjoy the mountains as you wish.
1. Bundle up and go on some winter excursions

Obviously the first thing on this list is skiing, and Les Deux Alpes is known for their resort, Les Deux Alpes Ski Resort. If you don’t know how to ski, there is a ski school. Other interesting winter sports include glacier walking (which is exactly what it sounds like) and ski-joering, which involves a person on skis being pulled by a horse. There’s also a public outdoor ice-skating rink that’s open all winter.
If you’re looking for a unique excursion, try visiting the ice caves at the top of Jandry Express; for only about 5 USD, you can explore different rooms and grottos dug with an ice pick and see ice sculptures carved everywhere you go. Wander through tunnels, and take pictures of an ice dinosaur and other prehistoric creatures; it’s like a museum made of ice…and under a glacier.

2. Get out on the water for some water sports

Believe it or not, summer does happen in the Alps – and with it, summer activities. You can go white water rafting, as well as canoeing and hydrospeeding. Hydrospeeding is for those who want to do some extreme sports and are looking for a challenge; also known as riverboarding, it involves lying on your stomach on a raft and holding on while you ride down the river. Going rafting is a great way to not only see the mountains, but experience them.

Right near Les Deux Alpes is Ecrins National Park. This is a great place to do some hiking, as well as those water sports mentioned above. And, there are plenty of outdoor activity companies you can hire to guide you through; you can go mountain biking, mountain climbing, horseback riding, paragliding, and even canyoning, which entails hiking and climbing, and using rappelling, waterfall jumping, and even rafting to explore canyons—keep in mind this is often done in groups.

4. Enjoy the pubs and cafes

Enjoy mountain views while chowing down or having a drink; there are several popular places to enjoy a good meal or a cup of coffee in town. La Moliere is a mountain restaurant at the foot of Les Deux Alpes with panoramic views, The Soul Kitchen has great vegetarian options, Le Petit Creperie has a stellar variety of crepes, a classic French staple, and Pub Winsor is a British-themed pub with lots of beer and whiskey. It doesn’t matter what you’re in the mood for; there’s everything from traditional French cuisine, to Italian, to seafood, and Tex-Mex in this town.

5. Enjoy some shopping and wandering the town

When visiting a town like this, just getting out and about can be a good time. Like wandering the town and taking in the mountain view, shopping (or window-shopping), picking a place to eat at random. Maybe stop by the golf course, or the bowling alley. Or why not take a ride on the Dome Funicular Express? Chances are you’d end up riding it anyway, since it transports people all around Les Deux Alpes, but you could take a ride for the heck of it and enjoy the bird’s eye view. And if you’re up for a late night you could visit the L’Avalanche Club Nightclub, a nightclub in the resort that boasts of its international atmosphere, DJs, parties, and dancing; they open at 11:00pm and close at 6:00am. O'Brians Bar and Le Cafe Bresilien are other popular night hot spots.

6. Have a tree top adventure

If you like climbing trees, this is definitely for you. There’s an “adventure park” in Les Deux Alpes called Adventure Park of Venosc, and they offer a very unique experience for both children and adults. Suspended in the ground, among the trees, you can climb ladders, leap from platforms, zipline, swing on a trapeze - you name it. It’s completely safe, as you’re hooked up to a harness. If you think you’d get bored, think again; there’s over 90 different stations for you to explore (there’s a special course for kids), and if you’re up for it, a bungee jumping tower.
